The National Nomadic Education Programme was created to ensure equal access to basic education for nomadic and semi nomadic populations in Nigeria. At Wuro Fulbe school, Fulani kids belonging to nomadic pastoralists families attend lessons that taught a modified curricula adapting the educational process to the nomadic needs. Nowadays, due to the lack of resources of the National Programme, classes are overcrowded with students. Earlier this year I had the opportunity of spending some time in Nigeria working in a multimedia special investigation by @afpphoto about the Fulani, one of the last great nomadic peoples of the planet, a community of some 35 million people scattered across 15 countries in West Africa, from the Sahel down to the lush rainforests. Until a few years ago, the Fulani, also called the Peul, pursued their ancient lifestyle largely unnoticed by the rest of the world. All that has changed. Conflicts over land, droughts and ecosystem variations due to climate change and other challenges are threatening the Fulani lifestyle creating a crisis of interests and identity. During the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some images from this project already published in several platforms by AFP News Agency. #education #school #fulani #peul #nomadicjourney #nomadic #nomads #nigeria #land #cattle #pastoralism #pastoralist #nomad #conflict #everydaysocialjustice #westafrica #cows #nature #bush #kaduna #sokoto #fulanipeople #reportage #reportagespotlight #photography #documentaryphotography #photojournalism #picoftheday #instadaily」8月18日 14時42分 - afpphoto
