#hypeflix: NBA legend and friend of @BruceLee, @kareemabduljabbar_33, penned a column for THR about the portrayal of Lee in director Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Many have already criticized the film’s caricature-like portrayal of the martial arts icon, including his daughter Shannon Lee. However, Jabbar addresses the controversy from the perspective of a friend, stating the film’s one-dimensional portrayal “harks back to the very stereotypes Bruce was trying to dismantle.” Click the link in the bio to read the full interview followed by the director’s official comments about the controversy.

It was a demeaning misrepresentation of a culturally significant Asian figure. Tarantino did not do his research at all, nor did he even talk to the Lee family about who Bruce really was. It is what it is and that's a damn shame.

Bruce Lee got stomped on by the white man. Sound the alarms 🚨 these guys have to learn to be more subtle and make it marginalized group vs. marginalized group to pull the wool over the eyes of the sheep. 👉🏻👈🏿

I feel like everyone trying to justify this portrayal are the same people who enjoy hearing white characters say the n-word in his films.

Look at all these non-Asians acting like their non-offendedness has any significance to the argument.
