China Chair™ was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1944. Wegner was inspired by the beauty of 17th and 18th century Chinese chairs. He was on a lifelong quest to understand the nature of wood and explore its possibilities and limits. He revealed his full talent as a wood craftsman and his taste for expressive, sculptural functionality in this design - the modern, Danish interpretation of an ancient, Chinese chair.
