"If you want to know all about #AndyWarhol, just look at the surface of my paintings and films and me, and there I am. There's nothing behind it.” —Andy Warhol, born #onthisday in 1928. #Warhol’s works were influenced by advertising, mass production, and celebrity culture. His identifiable subject matter and distinct style made him a leading figure in the #PopArt movement and one of the most recognizable artists today.

@paulxdm40 have you ever silkscreened to make an art print? If you think that’s not art then you also don’t think lithographs, intaglio prints or relief prints are art. I’ve taken photos, processed each color image of each layer myself, created the screens and then created prints in a series. It’s harder than it looks!!! It might not be classical painting (which I do and I love) but it’s just as difficult to get a masterpiece from silkscreening. And Warhol was making an interesting and unique statement at the time. Computers have taken away the awe of reproduced images but back then it was more amazing!

@bethanyhissongart We're all entitled to our opinion. I never would regard him as a painter. He transferred an image to a screen, and ran a squeegee over it.

@paulxdm40 how is that different from sculptures or any artist who uses assistants to help? Warhol created the image so yes, he’s a painter!
paulxdm40
Screenprinting, while technically uses paint does not make one a painter. Just a mass producer who employs other people to do it for them.

@bethanyhissongart Yes I have silkscreened before. Doesn't change my opinion of him.
