🇫🇷 La déesse Hathor et Séthi Ier se retrouvent en tête à tête en ce #JourDeFermeture.

📖 Ce bas-relief rehaussé d'une riche polychromie faisait partie du décor de la tombe du roi Séthi Ier, creusée et aménagée dans la montagne à l'ouest de Thèbes, la Vallée des rois. La déesse Hathor, souveraine de le monde des morts, accueille Séthi dans son domaine. Elle lui donne à toucher, pour sa protection, le collier ménat et prend sa main. La symétrie rigoureuse de ce face-à-face est nuancée par les attitudes des deux personnages.

👀 Hathor se tient immobile et droite alors que le roi semble en mouvement, légèrement penché vers elle, les jambes en position de marche. Ils sont nommés par les hiéroglyphes inscrits dans la partie supérieure du tableau, leurs qualités et leurs fonctions étant confirmés par les attributs qu'ils portent. Hathor est coiffée du disque solaire reposant entre des cornes de vaches, son animal sacré et Séthi porte sur le front le cobra protecteur uraeus.

📖 This bas-relief, enhanced with a rich polychromy, was part of the decoration of the tomb of King Sethos I, carved into the cliffs in the Valley of the Kings, west of Thebes. The goddess Hathor, Lady of the underworld, welcomes Sethos into her domain. She holds out her menat necklace as a symbol of her protection, and takes his hand. The rigorous symmetry of this face-to-face encounter is softened by the attitudes of the two figures.

👀 Hathor stands straight and still, whereas the king seems to be moving, leaning slightly toward her, his legs in a walking position. Both figures are named by the hieroglyphs inscribed on the upper part of the relief. Their functions and qualities are confirmed by their attributes: on the goddess's wig are the horns of a cow, her sacred animal, and a solar disk, while the royal uraeus cobra stands out in front of the king's forehead.
