Sir Ken Adam’s design for the oppressive and menacing Tarantula Room in DR. NO (1962). The set cost £450 and garnered a round of applause from the crew during rushes.

The entire shooting budget of Terence Young’s Dr. No was one million dollars; Connery was paid around $75,000 to play Bond; by From Russia With Love, he was making $150,000. Consequently, Connery harbored resentment towards Saltzman and Broccoli after the international success of the Bond films, and he left the franchise after You Only Live Twice. He returned for Diamonds Are Forever at a One Million plus salary.

@007 The set design on all the Bond films has always been spectacular! That tarantula room is no exception. Super cool room in which to shoot a super cool scene. *silenced PPK shots*

Ken Adams was a genius. He could create so much atmosphere with so little. And I loved the way he played with lighting! 👏👏
