Who remembers rolodexes? Who still has one?
This rolodex belonged to California LGBTQ rights activists, Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon. Martin and Lyon founded the Daughters of Bilitis, as a social club alternative to bars and night clubs. The work and mission of the Daughters of Bilitis grew over time.
The rolodex is on view in our display, “Illegal to be You: Gay History Beyond Stonewall.” It helps us explore the organized, dispersed gay rights movement that existed by the 1950s.

Don’t know whether to be proud or horrified that I’m now old enough to have to have a professional appliance I used for years is now an artifact at the Smithsonian. Does that make me and all who used Rolodexes artifacts too?

I’m sorry what does a Rolodex have in common with the pride stuff? You couldn’t have shown one anything else? Why shove it down everyone’s throats?
Do what you want and let me do what I want.

Lol I still have one, but it's much smaller than that one. The "at home version." I *did* have one similar to the one photographed during my "corporate slave" years ?

I liked having the history of the contact in one place - adored my annotated rolodex but reluctantly gave it up in the 90s. ?
