When planting outdoors, it’s always good to do your research to ensure a healthy local landscape. The purple #Iris versicolor ‘Kermesina’, seen here near the entrance of the Native Plant Garden, is a cultivar of the native harlequin blueflag, and a welcome sight in our region. But the cheerfully yellow Iris pseudacorus (a.k.a. yellow flag), while seemingly harmless, is a transplant from Asia and Africa which has widely naturalized and become invasive in the U.S., posing an ecological threat as it displaces native species. #plantlove
