I made this design for two eccentric and connected reasons. One was from watching a programme about QEI and how the palace approved a ‘stencil’ or guideline of her face for portraits which explains the similarity of many of her later depictions; 16th Century selfie awareness. And related to this 500-year-old version of the #filter was that - at the time I made this - NO redheads had representation in emojis despite almost every other variation possible.. (it’s still not great). I was trying to address the imbalance with a selfie-filter-redhead-Queen-headpiece!! Little did I think this concept-piece would find a home so this photo made me very happy!! We’ve made two - this, and the other is in the @museum_of_scotland on display in a bullet-proof glass cabinet.
