In 2017, there were 10,874 deaths in the U.S. from drunk driving crashes.
Volvo is looking to fight against those numbers.
To do this, Volvo wants to monitor drivers for reckless behavior by installing cameras and sensors in its cars. The system would be able to slow down the vehicle and park it in a safe place if the system detects the driver is intoxicated. Installation of the technology will start in the early 2020s.
