#MarianaCastilloDeball’s "Mathematical Distortions," part of her "Uncomfortable Objects" series, point to how certain ambiguities within topology might serve as metaphors for other fields of study. The works originated with the artist’s interest in mathematician Felix Klein, remembered today for the Klein bottle, a four- dimensional surface with no inside or outside. Klein constructed models of other surfaces, giving form to abstract and complex ideas about geometry and space with modest means like plaster, wire, wood, metal, and paper. See the work as part of "Finding Oneself Outside," on view through April 14.
