Look what we found in Tate's Archive! A photograph of Henry Scott Tuke (1858-1929) adding the finishing touches to his 1923 painting ‘Lovers of the Sun’.

Although Tuke often finished paintings in the studio, photographs show that he worked mainly in the open air, which accounts for the freshness of colour in his work and the realistic effects of sunlight reflected by the sea and onto the bodies of the boys we see in the completed work (swipe left to see!) ?☀️
