Longtime marijuana advocate and self-described cannabis creative @Mennlay Golokeh Aggrey first became involved with cannabis 14 years ago, growing medical marijuana in Humboldt County, California: America's pot promised land. Recently, her expertise has taken form in a cookbook: The Art of Weed Butter, which walks edible enthusiasts through infusing methods and oil options, as well as addressing questions that usually get asked too late, like "Did You Get Too High?" The recipes reflect Aggrey’s West African heritage, and the research she’s done on Afro-Latinx culture while in Mexico. But before any food-making is addressed, The Art of Weed Butter reviews the state of injustice—namely, the incarceration of people of color—that persists alongside the legal weed movement today. “Sorry for the buzzkill,” Aggrey writes, but, she explains, “in knowing, we are able to better enjoy and understand our privilege while using it to fight for those who cannot.” Most cannabis products that have emerged since legalization find it difficult to marry a carefree wellness vibe with the realities of racism, but Aggrey does so gracefully. We're excited to introduce #vogueworld, a new sub-site of Vogue.com dedicated to giving space to the talented, interesting, emerging voices dictating some of the most important conversations we are currently having.
