Sunday homework........1979, Coventry . A post industrial city that at the time was in terminal decline. But rising unexpectedly from the desolation came the 2 Tone movement . A reinterpretation of Ska and Reggae that found voice through bands including The Specials and The Selecter, both Coventry bands. Jerry Dammers from The Specials set up the 2 Tone label in conjunction with Chrysalis records and signed up fellow travelers including Madness, The Beat and The Bodysnatchers. The 2 Tone label with its distinctive graphics included the figure in pork pie hat , suit and loafers. The graphics were designed by John Sims , Dave Storey and The Specials Horace Panter. For 2 Tone fans and music fans in any case then go visit the Coventry Music Museum @covmusic. The museum celebrates Music from the city with a large section dedicated to 2 Tone and they are running many events across this year. ⠀
