Today we honour the heroic Martin Luther King Jr.
His powerful and chilling words resonate, stronger than ever today.
Our country is at a turning point- we are living amid a challenging and tumultuous political climate, where the rights of minorities and women are constantly being threatened, where walls are being built and doors are being closed. Simultaneously, we elected a record breaking 103 freshman congresswomen to the House of Representatives, welcoming our first Native American, Muslim, and gay representatives to take a seat at the table. I find this to be so incredibly inspiring and exciting, to see what Martin Luther King Jr. called a dream, come to fruition. We were able to do so by fighting suppression with peace, integrity and poise, able to stand up higher against the hatred that runs so rampant. But our work isn’t done. We have a long way to go. May we continue this momentum, continue to move, act, advocate, converse, educate and resist, and do our diligence to make a poetic and powerful dream into a beautiful reality of a world that is stronger in colour.
