High quality eyewear is made from cellulose acetate which is a durable plastic material. Thin acetate frames are an iconic timeless classic look and should be an absolute staple in any individuals eyewear collection. Like a 501 Levi Jean or Chuck Taylor. Most companies don’t make thin eyewear because they don’t want to deal with servicing people when it breaks. At #glco we have built an entire business around thin acetate frames and we have mastered it by sourcing the highest quality acetate we can find. However they are not indestructible, which is why we have a 1 year warranty on all our frames. But every winter it seems we get a few more requests. And my first question every time someone sends it to us is, “where do you live?” And every time the answer is a cold weather climate. And while I am sure you were cleaning it gently, you simply can not adjust a cold frame. The plastic is stiff and if you bend it enough it will snap. With that said, this happens to less than 1% of the thin frames we sell. Which is why we offer the warranty and are considering increasing the length of the warranty because it happens so infrequent. Bottom line is, we’re good but we’re not perfect. We highly advise you develop a relationship with a good local optician. Go see them and get a quarterly tune up. Or even twice a year. A good optician is not only someone who can do this properly but someone you thoroughly enjoy seeing twice a year.
