When it came out in 1978, this odd book barely got noticed. Who would want to read essays about punk music, nightclubs and drugs from the tuxedo wearing, greasy longed haired decadent social reporter of newly founded newspaper Liberation? His drunken appearance on cult literary program “Apostrophes” to promote it didn't help. And his death at the hands of his boyfriend a few years after and the closure of his publisher a year later put the final nail on his road to recognition. But all of those unfortunate accidents are what allowed history to do its work and transformed Un Jeune Homme Chic into a cult book (small printing, dead author and hyper focused topic) one that got re edited by Denoel in 2002. @christopherniquet #CNReadingRoom
