During Alibaba’s embryonic stage, Ma would blame Bill Gates and Microsoft for jacking up prices and making it difficult for start-ups to gain access to technology. The Alibaba co-founder soon realized it wasn’t Gates’ fault, but rather his own. He explained how he was blocking his own opportunities by using a common excuse that holds back many would-be entrepreneurs. "Most people keep on complaining," Ma noted.
