Celebrating Punk from the other side of the pond, tonight in London famed Hardcore Punk band Adolescents play Underworld in Camden. Co-founder and bassist Steve Soto sadly only passed in late June, but the band have admirably decided to continue on with the tour. Citing: 'After much internal conflict, soul searching, and heartbreaking discussion, we have realize that Steve- the hardest working man in punk rock- would be upset if we did not finish the tour support for the new record that he worked tirelessly on for well over a year.'
By the time Tartan-type Punk had fizzled out here in London, in the states young and angry kids were developing their own movement. Scenes and bands in DC and LA began to appear. Bands like Bad Brains and Minor Threat in the first; Germs and Black Flag in the latter. Their music was fast, their shows were violent, their cause was political and many of them pioneered Straight Edge. Adolescents were one of the best known, forming in 1981 and still touring today. Though Adolescents suffered a great deal of break-ups and make-ups throughout their careers, they helped shape the American Punk landscape. Songs like 'Amoeba' are a favourite, and albums were only a short way off beating distribution levels of Dead Kennedys.
