Explore the radical origin of #YayoiKusama’s work in “Narcissus Garden,” a site-specific installation at Fort Tilden in the Rockaways. Kusama's early career was defined by transgressive and politically tinged artistic interventions and happenings, many of which took place in New York City's public parks. This installation—first seen as part of a performance at the 1966 Venice Biennale—and accompanying exhibition reveal the creative beginnings of one of the most celebrated artists in the world, while also drawing attention to the Rockaways as a beautiful yet fragile part of NYC. Free and open to the public Friday through Sunday, through September 3.
