Thousands of children removed from their parents for seeking asylum in the U.S. have still not been returned, despite a court order. Many of these children are five & under & are being individually required to appear in court alone, without their parents or even legal representation. Judges have complained about the absurdity of having infants & toddlers hauled into their courtrooms & having to go through the motions of asking them why they’re seeking asylum & if they understand the judicial process & their rights when many of them don’t even know how to speak yet & those who can speak, when asked for something as simple as their mother’s name, answer with the only name they know her by, “Mama.” The trauma being inflicted on these children is heartbreaking & will last a lifetime. Don’t think for a second that these actions don’t define who we are as a nation. They do. To every one of these tortured, terrified children crying for their parents, we will forever be the monsters in their worst nightmare.

Immigration is a complicated issue. Kidnapping children is not the solution. It is inhumane. It is destructive. It is evil. It must stop & every single child must be returned to their family. Period.

If you don’t believe these children deserve to be reunited with their families, that’s your prerogative. If you do, join me & do something about it. Keep the pressure going for our leaders to make this right. Call your representatives. Over & over. Donate to @glennondoyle 's organization @together.rising or other boots-on-the-ground organizations working to help these families. Join and/or organize demonstrations to make your voice heard. These children are vulnerable & voiceless. It’s up to us.
