Today marks the 49th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969 @thestonewallinn. The multi-day rebellion erupted in response to a violent and routine police raid on the bar, with trans women of color, notably Marsha P. Johnson (left) and Sylvia Rivera (right), and homeless LGBTQ+ youth, at the forefront of the riot. Next year, @ブルックリン美術館 will join cultural organizations across New York City in honoring the 50th anniversary by presenting an exhibition of contemporary artists working in the legacy of this historic uprising.
