Born #onthisday, #PhilipGuston was a leader of the #AbstractExpressionist movement alongside Jackson #Pollock and Willem #deKooning. During the late 1960’s he shocked the art world by returning to figuration, using cartoonish representations that engage in dialogues of trauma. This change ultimately served as a precursor for Neo-Expressionism and is regarded as #Guston’s signature style.
