#WorkoftheWeek: Addendum by Eva Hesse is made of papier-mâché over a softwood structure, with ropes descending onto the gallery floor. As a result of years of display, the sculpture accumulated a significant amount of soiling on the surface of the ropes. In 2016, Tate became a partner in Nanorestart, an EU funded project looking at developing new technology for the cleaning of painted surfaces. Through the project, Tate's conservators discovered the development of CSGI gels, which have been successful in removing the soiling on the ropes' sensitive coating. The work has returned to display at Tate Modern, revived of its colour and uniformity – both elements critical to Hesse's practice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
