Dan Miller’s “Untitled” (2016) now welcomes visitors on the first floor as part of our Inbox series showcasing new #MoMACollection acquisitions. In this densely graphic drawing, Miller creates an undecipherable field topped with wisps of yellow paint reflecting his obsession with electrical objects such as light bulbs and sockets.

Miller is affiliated with the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, which provides studio space and materials for artists with developmental, mental, and physical disabilities. In his twenty-five years working with the nonprofit, he has developed a complex visual language that straddles expression, abstraction, and accumulation.
