“Look debonair all day long!” “Make hair behave right away!” In the 1950s, makers of personal care products began targeting teens, claiming that shampoo, skin cream, and deodorant could help manage awkwardly changing bodies and improve social relationships. Although make-up manufacturers had long cultivated the ideal of youth, after World War II they began actively courting youth consumers themselves, designing products just for teens.
