Barlow is known for using materials like concrete, felt, wooden pallets, polystyrene, and fabric, reflecting the urban environment in which she works. She assembles sculptures on site, often breaking them down after an exhibition and recycling the materials into future work.
For her 2012 solo exhibition at the museum, Barlow created a new, site-specific sculptural installation.
