Today, we’re celebrating American artist Kim Gordon for Women’s History Month.

Best known as the bassist of the rock group Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon began making art in the late 1970s.

In April of 2014, Gagosian presented “Coming Soon,” an exhibition by Design Office with Kim Gordon, at the Fitzpatrick-Leland House, LA. Some of the paintings were carefully installed, while others appeared to be awaiting placement. The exhibition presented an evolving situation—an artist’s active workspace, or a home in the process of being redecorated—that suggests eventual completion. “‘Design Office’ began in 1980 as a way to practice art outside of the gallery system. The design activity was not meant to be well executed or look a certain way, have a certain look or style. If anything it was a lo-fi aesthetic using or recycling other aesthetics.”
