To celebrate #FuturePark, an interactive digital world of light and colour, on now at the #PowerhouseMuseum, we're exploring some of the older technology from our collection.

Bakelite radio.

Made by Amalgamated Wireless Australasia Pty Ltd (AWA) in Sydney, Australia, 1948.

The cabinet design of this AWA Radiolette demonstrates the late 1940s trend toward reducing the size of domestic radio receivers.
The production of coloured sets such as this was limited as demand for brown Bakelite sets that blended with the contemporary decor was high.
