In the early 1950’s, American actress and filmmaker Ida Lupino directed and produced films that spoke to issues that movements like #MeToo advocate for today. At a time when Hollywood studios rarely touched on controversial subjects, her films intentionally focused on assault, unwanted pregnancy, economic inequality, and the division of power between genders. Take a closer look at her film “Outrage” (1950), about the rape of a young woman and the aftereffects of the assault, with Associate Curator Anne Morra on stories.moma.org
