Happy International Polar Bear Day! Iconic arctic animals, Polar Bears are extremely vulnerable. Climate change is the most serious threat to their habitat which they depend on to live and hunt, and due to the melting of arctic sea ice and its knock-off effects, it is disappearing. Currently we are at the lowest extent of sea ice in recorded history.
Not to mention @repryanzinke and @アメリカ内務省 just announced the date for the largest oil and gas lease sale in US history which means off shore drilling and immense potential negative impacts in federal waters.
An additional and direct threat to polar bears is hunting. Despite being listed as a Vulnerable species by the IUCN, (it's estimated that less than 25,000 polar bears remain in the world) they are still being hunted in Canada. It's the only country to allow polar bear trophy hunting by non-indigenous foreigners.
