Repost from @livewildoutdoors @TopRankRepost #TopRankRepost In the hiking world ? especially in the long distance hiking world, there seems to be this never ending debate of waterproof vs. non waterproof footwear. And I've tired just about every option, Waterproof boots, Waterproof low cut boots, non waterproof low cut boots, approach shoes, non waterproof trail runners and waterproof trail runners. And there are advantages and disadvantages to each, with a waterproof shoe if you step in a puddle or your crossing a lot of shallow rivers and streams like you do in the North East your gonna be nice and dry but if water gets over the top or it rains your gonna have wet feet for a while! On the other hand with non waterproof footwear if you step in even a small puddle your feet are instantly wet. Yet they will dry out much faster than waterproof footwear will. But on trails like the AT it can be extremely humid so nothing really dries out "quickly" . . . Personally I've found I actually like waterproof footwear for hiking in the east (out west is a little bit of a different story!) I've found having waterproof footwear is especially nice during the spring thaw? . . . For me the best way to do deal with wet feet (which can lead to blisters, trench foot, etc) on the trail is to take my boots and socks off to let everything dry out at least once or twice through the hike even if for only 5 minutes because let's face it, your feet are going to get wet from water and sweat no matter what your wearing! . . . #hiking #backpacking #thruhike #thruhiking #thruhike2018 #mountains #hikingshoes #hikingboots #newengland #obozfootwear #truetothetrail #wheretonext #wanderlust #adventure #mountaineering #wildernessculture
