We are pleased to welcome 24 works of art from the #SoulsGrownDeepFoundation to our collection. The Foundation is dedicated to documenting, preserving, exhibiting, and promoting the works of contemporary African American artists from the southeastern United States. This acquisition represents an important black tradition, rooted in assemblage and grounded in the expression of historical and sociological issues, and allows us to present a more comprehensive picture of the diversity of artistic expression in the post-Civil Rights era. The works include sculptural pieces by Thornton Dial and others, and quilts by several generations of the remarkable women of Gee’s Bend, Alabama.
