With tracking devices that weigh half a gram, Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center scientists have tracked Kirtland’s warblers for an entire year.
They learned about their migration routes, the timing of their departures and arrivals, their stopover sites and the duration of the migrations. On average, the birds travelled 1,700 miles in just 16 days.
