Artist Michael Heizer sited and installed "Isolated Mass/Circumflex (#2)" before the Menil's opening in 1987. The design is a recreation Nine Nevada Depressions, a 1968 work for which Heizer dug nine large curved trenches into a dry Nevada lake bed. Our 2004 exhibition "Earthworks: Land Art at the Menil" celebrated the de Menil's early support of Land Art.

This sculpture is part of our "Thirty Works for Thirty Years" exhibition, on view through January 28, 2018. Admission is free, always.
