This is my grandfather. He turned 100 years old on 11.11.17. I mentioned this last year on his birthday, but I think it's worth mentioning again and he became even more of badass since last year - here is with some updates. So he had been working at his factory until age 97 when he broke his hip bone and that put him in wheelchair temporarily, and even then, he wanted to go back to work so he went to rehab and now he walks again. He continued to physically stay fit or even stronger since, and when my mother last week jokingly told him that he must had been missing his work, he said that he really wants to get back to his work, and my mother could tell and we all know that he really meant it. Even at age 99.9. Right before he was born, his father (my great grandfather) sank to the bottom of the sea with his own ship. He was the captain of the fishing ship, and since as the captain he had strong emotional connection and pride for his ship, people speculated that, since they would never find him if he was separated from the ship, he tied himself to the mast of the ship and sank with it, and that was how he was found. So my grandfather never knew his father. His mother (my great grandmother) remarried and abandoned my grandfather when he was 8. So he became orphan, and raised by relatives. At age 15, he started working as a carpenter. And he went to war at age 18. Apparently, he used to often say that the time of war was the easiest time of his life up till then, and even though he never complained, obviously because his life hadn't been easy. Then, he started working at die-cast metal factory and eventually took it over, and he had worked for 80 years straight. I think my mannerism and even how I dress is based on my idea of him. I respect this man. And the thing I respect most about my grandfather is, despite the fact he had pretty tough life (or maybe because of it), as long as I can remember, he has always been gently smiling like in this picture. And he still is after a century. おじいちゃん、100歳の誕生日おめでとうございます。(上の英語文でわかるように)言いたいことはたくさんあるのですが、近いうちに直接会って伝えます。

Right before he was born, his father (my great grandfather) sank to the bottom of the sea with his own ship.
