言わずと知れた、avexグループホールディングス代表取締役社長の、松浦社長だ。海外に行く前に、近況報告とお誕生日に伺えなかったお祝いも兼ねて、一緒にお食事させていただいた。この方がいらっしゃらなければ、間違いなく今日の僕は存在しない。そしてEXILEすらも。HIROさんほどではないが、僕もデビューからずっとお世話になっているし、思い出を語らせていただければキリがない…。ですが、印象的なお話を簡単に二つだけ。デビュー当時、すぐ1stアルバム”Our Style” の制作に取り掛かり始めた頃だった。僕が入る前の、初代J Soul Brothersの曲をカバーして入れろという指示が、どこからともなく、レコード会社の上の方の人から降ってきた…。(まぁ、実際最初に自分の声がドラマの挿入歌として流れた時はJ Soul Brothers名義だったので、事実上僕も少しの間は、J Soul Brothersの一員ではあったのだけれど…。だから今でもサインにJ・S・Bの文字が残っているわけで…。)僕は内心、”名前をEXILEに変えたのになぜ、JSBの曲をカバーするのだろう…？” と、今考えれば失礼、生意気、極まりないが、当時は本当に純粋な疑問として、飲みの席で松浦社長に思いきってぶつけてみた。すると、返事は至ってシンプルで、単純明快だった。”すごくイイ曲なのに、まだ世の中に知れ渡ってないから、だからお前らが歌うんだよ‼️” 僕はただただ、なるほど‼️と心底納得して、そしてそのままレコーディングに入り、結果ファーストアルバムがすぐに20万枚を超える売り上げとなった。松浦社長のプロデュースしたEXILEという矢は、見事にミュージックシーンを捉えたのだと思う。次に続く…。
Needless to say,Mr. Matsuura, president of Avex Group Holdings. Before going abroad, I wanted to keep him updated and celebrate his birthday. I had dinner with him last night ! Without him, there is no doubt the man I am today. Not only myself but all of EXILE. Not as long as Hiro san but he has looked out for me from orchestrating my debut and I have countless memories with him. However, there are 2 impressive stories. The first one is at the time of my debut, around when we began working on our 1st album "Our Style". We were instructed to cover songs of the original J Soul Brothers from the time before I entered. These instructions came from the top of the record label... (Well, actually when my voice was first used for a drama series, it was for J Soul Brothers - technically I was a member. That’s why even now in my autographs I write “JSB”. ) In all honesty, inside I was thinking, "we changed our name to EXILE, why are we covering JSB songs ...?" Looking back now, I was rude and arrogant, but I asked that question directly to President Matsuura while our drinking. Then his reply was simple and straightforward. "Even though it is a very good song, it is not well known to the world yet, so you just sing!” I was right away convinced and continued to record. As a result the first album quickly exceeded 200,000 copies. I think that the arrow called EXILE produced by President Matsuura captured the music scene in a perfect manner.
