Forty years ago tomorrow sees the release of #NeverMindtheBollocks and here we see the aftermath of the launch at #Virgin in #NottingHill. The photo was taken by #BarryPlummer a photographer for #MelodyMaker at the time. He took an urgent phone call to say the fans were going mad at the Marble Arch store. “When I got there, I was told it was the Notting Hill brand and not Marble Arch. Off I went but when I got there all the fans had gone. Inside was a bit of a mess with #RichardBranson and the staff standing just there “ The only studio album they ever recorded, unusually rather than a landmark of the positive incline of their career, a closer look at the band during time it was released suggests it was the beginning of the end. Though, to look at the album in another frame, it marked the beginning of a new way forward for music and the industry itself. In 1977, things were in slow decline in the #SexPistols camp. #GlenMattlock had been fired ‘for liking the Beatles’ too much. #SidVicious stepped in- accompanied with his lack of musical talent, multiple assault offences and drug addiction to boot. #JohnnyRotten was attacked with a knife in Islington- as was Paul Cook. They had to been signed to EMI the year before, but started off this year by getting dropped. Then they were signed to A&M- that lasted six days. Finally, they were picked up by Virgin- but Richard Branson seemed intent on creating a ‘Best Of...’ style album of back-to-back hits everyone had heard before. And relationship with manager #MalcolmMcLaren was rocky to say the least- he was hell-bent on working with renowned B-‘DoubleG’-Movie legend #RussMeyer in a film starring the band called ‘#WhoKilledBambi?’ Filming lasted a day before anyone clocked that the skyrocketing budget had absolutely no legitimate foundations in funding. Steve Jones also made a retort to comments over McLaren’s overbearing input and control- stating ‘He's our manager, that's all. He's got nothing to do with the music or the image...he's just a good manager’ Can’t imagine Malcolm liking that too much. CONTINUED IN COMMENTS BELOW
