A little #bluesday inspiration from #bkmamericanart: Japanese textiles, arms and armor, prints, and ceramics became enormously popular in artistic American interiors at the end of the 19th century. An avid and eclectic collector, #WilliamMerrittChase had an abundance of Asian textiles and foreign costumes in his studio and was therefore poised to respond to the growing popularity of Japanese costume paintings. By the late 1880s, he had begun to portray selected models, often female family members, robed in beautifully patterned kimonos, such as this portrait of an unidentified woman garbed in bluish-gray. #infinitebluebkm ?
