Wealthy Roman houses were often covered with paintings like this one from Pompeii. It shows Bacchus, the god of wine, and his symbol the panther. He’s standing between vines and wears a leopard or panther skin. Fashions in wall-painting changed over time, and at least four major styles of painting have been identified, spanning nearly three centuries.
