The movement during the lost decade—actually, two lost decades in the contemporary art industry— between Mono-ha and Superflat cannot be discussed without mentioning Katsuhiko Hibino. Such cultural current in the aggregate may be self-evident to the Japanese, but it must have seemed strange and mysterious to those overseas. In this talk event, I am hoping to look back at this period and contemplate the notion of culture itself.
By the way, the talk is in Japanese only, so I intend to report back in English at a later date.
