Sally Morgan | 'Citizenship', 1988⠀
⠀
The 1967 Referendum established full civil rights for Aboriginal people nationally; including the abolition of Exemption Certificates, which were often known as 'dog tags'. The exemptions required Aboriginal people to be registered and many had refused to apply for them.⠀
⠀
Sally Morgan is a descendant of the Palyku people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia. She illustrates the derogatory nature of this concept in this striking print. Morgan is a printmaker and writer known for her autobiography 'My Place'.⠀

Currently on display at #PowerhouseMuseum along with other works by Indigenous artists to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Referendum. #NAIDOC2017 #ABHM
