Photo by @twowheelednomad Lurking eerily beneath Mendenhall Glacier near Juneau, Southeast Alaska, is an astonishing ice cave. Swelling blue domes glistened like glass and resembled the underside of a rapid river, flash-frozen. Quite the trek to haul heavy camera equipment to the face of the glacier but worth every effort. In only a matter of weeks, the ice chamber will thaw and disappear from existence forever, making the experience all the more precious. The image conveys a transient moment in time, never to be repeated. What’s more, knowing it could have collapsed at any point with tons of ice above—supported only by its own melting structure—pricked the senses. A feeling of intense vulnerability.
