ニューヨーク植物園のインスタグラム(nybg) - 5月18日 04時29分

The beautiful pygmy-fringed tree, Chionanthus pygmaea, is a threatened species that grows only in disappearing pineland habitat in central Florida. This specimen was collected in 1920 by Garden scientist John Kunkel Small, in an area that has likely been lost to citrus groves and urban sprawl. See other beautiful and interesting herbarium specimens in our exhibit, "What in the World is a Herbarium?" in the Ross Gallery, now through October. #nybgscience
