Resigned to this idea, while still struggling with the dilemma, I worked on forming a company over the course of a few years. Ideally I would have kept it an alternative organization, but in order to compensate everyone, we had to deal with taxes and in turn had to keep the records neat and orderly. Ah, what a headache… Of course, I being who I am, the company I created naturally wouldn’t do well. To start, a company is something a person with talent for management should create. A company made by someone with a wishful thinking—namely that if he became a painter, he would be left alone, freed from bothers of dealing with others—would inevitably become a lopsided organization; it truly feels chaotic. I have been conducting trials, then, of creating artworks in such an organization. To depend on others to produce one’s work is generally held in great contempt, and yet it is an extremely difficult undertaking to create a work of art through division of labor. The number-one essential for art is the seriousness of those involved. If people involved aren't serious, the resulting work wouldn’t maintain its life to endure over space and time, dozens and hundreds of years into the future. vol.2 @mcachicago
