Nous vous présentons aujourd’hui un détail d’un tableau peint par #ValentinDeBoulogne à découvrir dans l’exposition qui lui est consacrée jusqu’au 22 mai. Considéré comme le plus brillant des peintres à la suite de Caravage et comme l’un des plus grands artistes français à l’égal de Poussin, Valentin de Boulogne (1591-1632) passa l’essentiel de sa carrière à Rome, où il reçut de prestigieuses commandes, notamment du pape Urbain VIII. Son œuvre fut aussi collectionnée par les puissants, au premier rang desquels figurent Mazarin et Louis XIV et servit de modèle tout au long du XIXe siècle à des maîtres aussi différents que David ou Courbet. Here’s a detail from a painting by French painter Valentin de Boulogne which is to be seen in the dedicated exhibition on display until May 22. Considered the most brilliant of the painters coming in the wake of Caravaggio, and one of the greatest French artists -indeed, the equal of Poussin- Valentin de Boulogne (1591–1632) spent the greater part of his career in Rome executing prestigious papal commissions. His work was also collected by people in power, most notably Cardinal Mazarin and Louis XIV, and throughout the 19th century served as a model for masters as different as David and Courbet.
