#NowOnView in #BKMEuropeanart—Two works by acclaimed French artists depicting a famed 19th century ballerina. Made for the 1868 Salon, “Portrait of Mlle Fiocre in the Ballet ‘La Source’” by #EdgarDegas captures the young star during a break in rehearsal and is among the first of his many works focusing on contemporary ballet. In celebration of the painting’s return, the Degas is paired with #JeanBaptisteCarpeaux’s plaster bust of the dancer. On special loan from @petitpalais_musee, the bust is a reduced version of a marble sculpture he made for the Salon, where it was praised for its lively, expressive features and sensual form.
