Happy birthday to #AnselmKiefer, who was #bornonthisday in 1945. In 1988, his monumental sculpture, “Palette with Wings,” was installed at the base of the Great Stair Hall, in view of our iconic sculpture of “Diana.” This was done as a nod to Kiefer’s artistic inspiration: the mythological god Icarus, whose wings melted upon flying too close to the sun.
