Nailing down the truth is a reporter’s fundamental task, and it’s one that has proved exceptionally difficult with the current administration. It’s had the effect of making minor celebrities of the reporters whose job it is to check the administration’s torrent of spin, and who prepare, per The Washington Post’s Ashley Parker, like “lawyers” for their daily skirmish with Team Trump. NPR’s national political correspondent, Mara Liasson, photographed, weighed in on the current climate: “Donald Trump is a stress test for democratic institutions. One of the biggest stories is: How do those institutions survive? That’s something worth watching, and I think it’s playing out every day. My listeners are going to get a real education in what democracy is. It’s more than elections. It’s about all these institutions.
