This is Buffalo Soldier Benjamin Blayton. He went on to serve in World War I.
Born in Oklahoma, he moved to Washington, D.C., and became an electrician. In 1918, at the age of 20, he enlisted in the United States Army and became a member of the Buffalo Soldiers. The Buffalo Soldier division was primarily comprised of African American soldiers from the 9th and 10th Calvary Regiments of the U.S. Army. They were responsible for supporting westward expansion by helping to build new settlements and to protect settlers. It was their role in campaigns against American Indians in the West that led to their regimental nickname.
